BIOGRAPHY I perceive neon colour as the colour of light. This is the reason that I make art. It empowers me and gives me a sense of life. Zora Kreuzer is a painter whose practice explores the quality of light and colour through site-specific light installations and wallpaintings. She investigates the colours and shapes found in public space, from advertising and neon signs to natural phenomena. Born in 1986 in Bonn, Germany, she grew up in Berlin. From 2006 - 2012 she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe, emerging as a Meisterschüler of Prof. Leni Hoffmann in 2013. During the course of her degree, she also undertook study in France at the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg(2008) and in China, at the Contemporary Art School Tianjin(2009). Her roots are in painting, with a focus on Minimal Art and Concrete Art. With time, this grew into a practice based on site specific art works. In China she was deeply influenced by the widespread use of coloured light in public space and as a result started to work with light, especially with fluorescent tubes. In 2014 she was awarded the Christoph Merian Stiftung Residency at Old Customs House, Fremantle, Australia. During her 10 month stay the specific light of Western Australia became the focal point of her research. She adapted her colour palette and created several large-scale wallpaintings and light installations. These works resulted in her membership of the Australian Center for Concrete Art (AC4CA). This relationship has continued with further exhibitions and residencies since then. She currently lives and works in Berlin.
